Solar Heat For Your Pool

Mon, 02/06/2012 - 18:13 -- Dale Kreviazuk

Having solar heat would be the best and cheapest option would it not? In an ideal world, it probably would be, however we live in Winnipeg and our climate varies a lot from season to season. Solar systems are prone to leaks from frost, roof damage from leaking water, cooling your pool down at night if the diverter valve is not shut off, and shortened swimming season dependant on the sun. Old Pool Coping And New Styles

Mon, 02/06/2012 - 18:12 -- Dale Kreviazuk

New coping styles versus older styles. Older styles of coping are usually obsolete and parts are not available any more. This can be a problem when trying to fix your existing coping. Repairs to coping do not hold up in our harsh Manitoba climate and usually make replacement the only viable option. Older styles of coping are usually plastic. The downside of plastic coping is that it shrinks. The hot summer sun in Winnipeg heat up and expand your plastic pool coping. Winter time comes along with the cooler weather and now you have gaps between your coping. Sometimes plastic coping is still the best option as with 6” patio coping. Our new Vastec coping had a powder coated aluminum base with a PVC white plastic top cap. Any shrinkage between the joints is camouflaged by the white aluminum base. Pool Wall Sunk Or Pushed In

Mon, 02/06/2012 - 18:09 -- Dale Kreviazuk

Vinyl lined pools have steel galvanized pool walls 98% of the time. These steel pool walls are supported by “A” frames or “X” bracing at the back of the panels to support them and keep the straight. These types of pools are also designed to always be full of water which helps support the walls outward. The steel pool walls are also supported by a concrete footing that locks the walls in place and forms one continuous unit instead of having individual panel segments making everything stronger. Pool Liner Coming Out of Coping and Falling Down

Mon, 02/06/2012 - 18:09 -- Dale Kreviazuk

Quite often in spring time we receive calls about liners that have fallen out of the coping and slid down the pool wall. This is caused from the liner lifting and releasing tension on the bead of the liner which enables it to pop out of the coping or receiver track. For the liner tension to be released means that, your liner has to lift from the ice or from pool water getting under your vinyl liner. Water can get underneath your liner through a hole in your liner or from general ground water saturation around your pool which is usually runoff water being trapped. Ground Water

Mon, 02/06/2012 - 18:04 -- Dale Kreviazuk

We usually encounter ground water under you swimming pool in the spring, after heavy rain falls, if you have an underwater river, low lying lands, or if the ground is saturated from a long term pool leak. Before a new liner can be installed the ground water has to dry up. We have seen ground water running in as fast as water comes out the end of a garden hose. This is not all that common but we see enough of it to make mention of it. Read more about Ground Water
